Easy Guide: Remove Conduit Virus
Conduit Search is both a Browser Hijacker and a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) and though ‘technically’ not a virus, it unethically installs itself onto the victims personal computer. Once Conduit has been installed on your computer, it is very difficult to fully remove because the uninstaller does not remove all of Conduit’s files and registry traces. Making malware removal extremely difficult to do manually. Even if you try to change your browser settings manually, Conduit blocks you as well, as it completely overrides all of your browser’s settings.
To make things worse, Conduit will install additional adware to your computer making it much harder to remove conduit, such as toolbars and modify your browser’s homepage settings. It even forces its victims to use its own brand of search engine, Conduit Search, to display advertisements and sponsored (paid) links with its search results. It’s a real nasty piece of malware!
Conduit malware usually gets onto victims computers through unsuspecting freeware that they may have downloaded to their computer. The freeware, unknowingly to users, is bundled with Conduit and installs without their knowledge. One method to prevent bundled software from installing is to select “custom installation” when going through the install process, and un-selecting any software listed that seems strange, especially software add-ons that you didn’t want to begin with.
Symptoms of Conduit
- When using a search engine (such as Google or Bing) Conduit will show its signs in the url window of your browser after you execute a search, see the bold in the following example:

Please remember that after your system is cleaned of Conduit, install ALL software via custom and AVOID the “express”, “quick” or “recommended”, installations. While custom may be slower by a minute or two, you will have the opportunity to decline unwanted software that piggybacks with popular downloads. Be patient and read carefully, all the screens with fine print because sometimes they contain tiny check boxes that have to be unchecked. Always read the titles on the buttons because sometimes the decline and accept buttons are switched around or re-worded in a manner that you may actually “okay” the installation of unwanted applications.
But if you do catch yourself, then stop the setup of the program in its tracks and start over.
Also, if your current anti-virus solution let this infection through, you may want to consider purchasing the premium version of your anti-virus to protect against these types of threats in the future or purchase a new anti virus all together.
