All computer systems need to have an anti-virus program installed. Malware, adware, spyware, and the assortment of other malicious intending files out there are more sophisticated now than ever before. Many can install onto your computer one bit at a time, making it difficult to identify. By the time you realize undesirable material has installed itself onto your system it’s too late, and the damage has already been done. However, sometimes you may need to remove an anti-virus software from your computer for one reason or another. If you’re running AVG and need to uninstall it, you need to know how to uninstall AVG.
AVG is an anti-virus software. It is used as a means of protection from the undesirable and unwanted files that may find their way onto your system by one way or another. Depending on the version of AVG you’re running (and what elements you have activated of the software on your computer), AVG may do anything from providing an additional firewall of protection to scanning email attachments and checking your system routinely for potential viruses and other malicious activity.
AVG is an application designed not only for Windows systems but also for Mac computers. There may also be a time where you need to know how to uninstall AVG for both Windows and Mac computers.
Both Windows and Mac Need Antivirus Software
The fact of the matter is that both Windows and Mac computers need antivirus software. There is a misconception that Macs do not require anti-virus protection because the computers do not “get viruses.” This is not true at all. Macs are less likely to be infected by a virus or another form of malware for several reasons, but they certain can and are.
One reason Macs don’t get as many viruses is that Apple creates both the Mac and MacOS, which allows the operating system to fit the computer like a glove. This makes it far more difficult for any unwanted files to squeeze in past the OS and its security features.
With Windows, Microsoft builds the operating system, but it is installed on any number of builds and computer designs. In this way the operating system sits over the computer hardware like a blanket, so it isn’t as secure and it is easier for external threats to slide under the covers and behind the OS’s firewall.
The Nature of Viruses
When malware is created, just like any other file system it must be made for a specific operating system. There are far more Windows computers out there than Mac computers, so it’s easier to create malware for Windows because it will go on to to infect more computers. It’s also easier for a novice designer to create malware for Windows because it doesn’t fit as securely as MacOS on a Mac computer.
With all of that said, someone who knows what they are doing can still create spyware that can install itself onto a Mac computer and do just as much damage when the user is not careful. That is exactly why AVG created an anti-virus software for Mac computers.
Reasons to Uninstall
There are several reasons as why you might want (or need) to uninstall AVG. Whatever the reason is, once you know how to uninstall AVG you’ll be able to go about performing the uninstall whenever necessary.
Upgrading to a Different Anti-Virus Software
It’s possible you’ve found an anti-virus software you like better. Perhaps it is updated for your current operating system or it provides features you like better than what your current AVG software has. Whatever the reason, you can’t have both anti-virus programs running at the same time. When you have two programs such as this the two will begin to in-fight.
The firewalls of each will interfere with one another. The two will constantly attempt to scan the same file, and they may identify the other as a problem. It’s like a white blood cell attacking another white blood cell in the body because it believes it is a foreign object. In order to prevent this from happening you need to uninstall AVG.
Need to Clear Off All Applications
You might be selling your computer and you need to clear off all applications from your computer. In these instances you need to go about deleting the files and removing all associated files. You don’t want an anti-virus program left on the computer when you sell the software, so you remove it along with the other applications. When you uninstall AVG ,you’ll find that it isn’t all that different from removing other programs, whether on a Mac or on a Windows computer. When you know how to uninstall AVG, you’ll be able to remove it, whatever the reason you have behind needing to remove the program.

This brings up an “Uninstall” prompt. Choose “Uninstall” and the application will be removed from your computer.
It is important to always have an anti-virus software installed on your computer. However, two anti-virus programs cannot run on the same computer. One firewall will interfere with the other and the two programs will end up fighting with the other, preventing each from doing its job to the best of its abilities. So, if you’re upgrading your current anti-virus software, have found something better, or are selling your computer and you want to remove all files and external applications, by knowing how to uninstall AVG you’ll be able to remove AVG without any problem.
