Avast is one of the leading anti-virus programs out there for both Windows and Mac computer systems. While Windows-based computers come with Windows Defender and Macs are generally seen as safe, you may want to increase the level of protection you receive with an upgraded anti-virus title. Avast is such a title, but it can also come with a series of upgrade and feature pop-ups that, while not spamming you, can become annoying. That is why you will need to know how to stop Avast pop ups.

Avast has two different versions available. The first is a free option. The Avast free title comes with a firewall and a scanning feature, so you can scan over your hard drive, identify potential problem files, and remove these files from your computer.

The pay option increases the level of protection and offers new features ranging from email scanning to improved malware protection. Whatever version you use though you’ll likely run into the pop up problem. When you have the free version, the pop ups tell you when the software has been automatically updated, when a possible threat has popped up and when the software has prevented a threat from accessing your computer. It will also instruct you to upgrade to the pay version for added support and features.

The pay version pop ups include many of the same display windows although there are others including the scanning of emails and additional flags for undesirable activity. Whatever version of Avast you’re running, it is a good idea to know how to stop Avast pop ups.

Problems With Avast

You likely won’t have many problems while running the Avast anti-virus software. The program provides you with an improved firewall and a number of security features, even when you use the free version. So depending on the version you’re running and the operating system you’re using, you might be forced to deal with this.

However, the only real issue you’ve probably experienced are the software pop-ups. These are not as intrusive as an Internet pop-up. However, if you’re in the middle of playing a game or using another kind of full-screen software you likely don’t want these windows appearing and disrupting your computer experience.

The windows appear in the up-right side of the screen. Some will appear and tell you to update your anti-virus protection by moving from the free to the pay service. Other windows will slide out and tell you the anti-virus software has been updated (this is more of a reminder that the software is working, as you likely don’t care all that much about the version number, just as long as it is active and prevents viruses and malware).

If the pop up windows frustrate you, or even if you find it annoying the times the windows do appear, your best bet is to know how to stop Avast pop ups and to follow the steps to turn these pop ups off.

To do this, launch the software. Click on the “General” tab to bring up additional selection features.
From within the General option, you should see the display language at the top of the window. Second from the bottom on the list of options is the “Silent/Gaming Mode” option. However, when you restart the computer this will probably revert to its original setting, so you’ll need to do this every time you play a game on a new computing session, or when you shut down and reboot the computer.
While you are in the General display settings, you might want to remove the Avast email signature as well. By turning this off you won’t have the pop up windows showing the email is safe to open. If the email contains anything potentially dangerous to your computer, it will let you know, so you don’t need to be notified of it being safe (especially if you check your email frequently). Unchecking this “Enable Avast email signature”, which is located right under Silent/Gaming Mode, will do this.

Changing The Software Post Installation

You can customize your software after you have installed it. This gives you greater control, although you’ll need to do this outside of the software. So close out Avast and head over to the “Control Panel” on your computer.
